Experience
My goal is to create a hands-on dental training program that exposes prospective dental students to basic dental instruments and essential biomedical science ideas concepts. In addition to covering dental anatomy, biomaterials, and microbiology, the workshop will give students supervised dental instrument practice. In order to gauge the workshop's efficacy, I will also analyze the learning outcomes of the students.
Bridging the gap: Enhancing dental skills through interactive learning
Through my research, I am exploring the effects of interactive tool-based learning on students' ability to grasp key dental anatomy and biomaterials principles

Internship Objective
-
Develop and deliver a single-session or multi-session workshop on introductory dental skills.
-
Improve my teaching and communication skills by explaining complex dental concepts to students through workshops and modules.
-
Assess student confidence and understanding before and after the workshop.
-
Gain experience in curriculum development and educational research.

Research Question
What is the effect of interactive tool-based learning on students' ability to grasp fundamental dental anatomy and biomaterials concepts? In addition, how does hands-on dental workshops impact student’s confidence, proficiency, and understanding of basic dental skills and concept’s?

The hands-on dental training program I am developing will provide prospective dental students with an interactive learning experience focused on essential dental concepts and skills. The curriculum includes an introduction to fundamental dental instruments, where students will learn proper handling techniques through guided practice. In addition, the workshop will cover key biomedical science topics such as dental anatomy, biomaterials, and microbiology, helping students understand the scientific principles behind dentistry. To reinforce these concepts, students will participate in hands-on activities, including tooth morphology identification, impression-making, dental suturing techniques, and material handling. These exercises will allow them to develop technical proficiency and confidence in performing basic dental procedures. Simulated patient interactions and real-world problem-solving scenarios will further enhance their ability to apply knowledge in clinical settings. To assess the workshop’s effectiveness, students will complete pre- and post-assessments measuring their understanding, skill development, and confidence levels. Their feedback, along with performance data, will be compiled into a summary report highlighting key takeaways, strengths, and areas for improvement. Additionally, I will present my findings, demonstrating how interactive, hands-on training enhances students’ grasp of fundamental dental concepts, builds confidence, and improves technical proficiency. This presentation will also provide recommendations for future dental training programs, ensuring that students receive the best possible preparation for dental school and clinical practice.
